When nylon became coveted
The nylon stockings in this picture belong to the sought-after everyday luxuries of the early postwar period. During the Second World War, nylon was withdrawn from civilian sales for military purposes, including parachutes. When the material became available again, the stocking quickly became a symbol of the consumerism that the war years had put on hold.

The story behind the motif

Posts with a k win in 1940s modern nylon stockings. Nylon stockings began to be manufactured in 1939, and the following year sales began in Europe.

One of the main reasons why the product was developed was that women's skirts became short in the 1920s. Women started using silk stockings but these were very expensive and broke easily. In the United States, they began to experiment with cheaper materials. The solution was nylon, a synthetic fiber material. In a short time, the new product replaced organic materials such as hemp and silk.
