A Name with a Warning
The species name catharticum means roughly “cleansing” and reveals why the plant found a place in a medical flora. During the nineteenth century it was used as a laxative, but it also contains poisonous compounds. The source was published in Medical Botany in 1836.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a classical illustration of linen or in Latin linum. Linum is a plant genus within the family Linaceae, and is known for its uses in textile production and dietary supplements. Its fibers are used, among other things, in the production of linen fabric/linen and the oil is rich in omega 3 and has anti-inflammatory properties.
