Almost a Century Later
It reached the Gothenburg Museum of Art only in 2013, through an unusually delayed administrative journey. Gustaf Werner had bequeathed the painting to the City of Gothenburg; nearly a century after Zorn’s 1912 signature, it was transferred from the city administration to the museum’s collection.

The story behind the motif

Poster with the painting Model at Shore by the iconic, Swedish artist Anders Zorn from 1912. The painting's Swedish title is Model in beach party and shows a naked woman heading down to the water's edge.

Zorn created mostly landscape paintings and also did some nude studies. He modeled, among other things, sculptures such as Nymph and Faun, Morning Bath and a statue of Gustav Vasa.

Anders Zorn was a significant artist in Sweden and was also successful internationally, not least in the USA, where he was hired to paint portraits of presidents, business leaders and society.
